On August 11, I attended the Brookfield Gala Days activities. One event was their silent auction. This auction had items that I have never seen together at any other silent auction, and I have organized many auctions for non-profit organizations in the past. The unusual items included baskets of organic produce, baskets of fresh vegetables straight from a resident’s garden, as well as a 10-foot apple tree. Other items were wood products and maple products, freshly baked blueberry pies and, most unusual, three yards of compost. It was clear how this community joins together in an effort to restore and renovate the local town hall building. Each resident donated what they had and the effort to make this a success was truly a show of how a small town can come together. Priscilla Mixon Ruskin ____________ |
