We recently filed a complaint with Orange County Sheriff Bill Bohnyak. It is important for Chelsea residents to know who to contact if they need police support, and no, it is not the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

In Sheriff Bohnyak’s written response to us, he writes, "…the county tax provides the Sheriff with a building and administrative personnel." According to Sheriff Bohnyak, Chelsea’s contract with Orange County Sheriff’s Department is $8000.

He writes, "That $8000 pays for deputies to respond to a variety of complaints in Chelsea when the Vermont State Police are not available." Re-read that again ... "when the Vermont State Police are not available." So I guess that answers the question that we continue to ask. Are we getting what we pay for? The answer continues to be NO.
