Irish Firemen Receive Gifts From Strafford Fire Dept.

On a recent family trip to Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, Kiersten Thorp Harlow and her grandmother Peggy Sullivan Thorp joined the Dingle Volunteer Fire Department on their Wednesday evening drill.

Kiersten, whose husband Shawn Harlow is Captain of the Strafford Fire Department, presented the Dingle Firemen with Strafford Fire Department T-shirts.

Dingle is located on the Dingle Peninsula in the south west of Ireland and is the closest land in Europe to America. The Dingle Fire Station provides coverage for a large area, including most of the peninsula.

When asked about support from other fire departments, Dingle Chief Jim McCarthy replied "to the east it's Tralee, which is an hour away and to the west it's 'across the pond' at Boston... but they don't get here very fast."
