Jen Chase, age 15 of Braintree, a sophomore at Randolph Union High School tested for her second degree black belt in the martial art of tae kwon do at the Blue Wave Association Summer Camp. The testing event was held the weekend of August 3, 4, and 5 at the fair grounds in Tunbridge. Chase started training on her sixth birthday under her dad, Master Tom Chase, who is head instructor at their Randolph dojang and her grandfather, Master Pete Chase, assistant instructor. Kimberly Buckholts, age 10 of Randolph, who is also a student of the Chases, tested for her first degree black belt. Buckholts had tested for her recommended black belt at winter camp in Maine in March and this testing finalized her first dan black belt degree. Matthew Wood, formerly of Bethel and a student of Master Tom and Master Pete Chase, now lives in Hanover and attends Dartmouth College, tested for his third dan black belt. After earning his first degree black belt, Wood had to train two years before testing for his second degree and then another three years of training before he could test for this belt level, his third degree black belt. Over 170 students plus friends and family attended the testing event on Friday evening with 29 testing: 13 students passing to black belt recommended, 10 for first dan decided black belt, four passing their second dan black belt and two for third dan black belt. ____________ |
