Fiddle Concert and Barbecue Fundraiser for Jerry Holland On Saturday, Aug. 18, beginning at 4 p.m., there will be a fiddle concert and chicken barbecue fundraiser at the Braintree Town Hall, with all proceeds going to help well-known fiddler Jerry Holland in his battle against cancer. A master Cape Breton fiddler, Holland has become familiar to many Vermonters through his frequent visits to this area to teach and perform. He heard the greats of Cape Breton fiddling from the time he was a child, was performing by the age of six, and is renowned as a performer, teacher, and composer of new tunes in the Cape Breton tradition, many of which have become popular mainstays in his repertoire. His numerous recordings are a treasure trove of traditional and original tunes. His many trips to Vermont have helped to create a local cadre of fiddlers devoted to the Cape Breton style. The August 18 chicken barbecue will be followed by a concert featuring Celtic, Cape Breton and Irish style music performed by Mairi Rankin, Sarah Blair, Pete Sutherland, Jeremiah McLane, Beth Telford, Jim Green and many more. Tables for the meal are limited, so consider bringing a blanket to put down on the grass. The Braintree Town Hall is located on Rte. 12A in West Braintree, 5.9 miles from Randolph. Tickets will be limited to the first 100 people. To make ticket reservations for this event, call Jim Green at 728-3607 or Beth Telford at 728-6351. ____________ |
