Little League Cookout, The Randolph area softball and baseball Little League Organization held their end of the year cookout and awards ceremony Saturday, June 23. The day began with the championship game between the Yankees and the Dodgers. The Yankees were the victors but the Dodgers gave them a run for their money. The cookout followed with a crowd of approximately 200 with the Mets team doing the cooking. The cookout was followed by the drawing of the raffle prizes, first place trophies for both softball and baseball and All-Star announcements for three teams. Raffle The end of the year raffle was a big success with a little over $1,300 raised. The top prize winners were Dick Locke, the granite coffee table, Sherri Grant, who won the Montague Golf Club golf fees and Mike Patterson who won the picnic table. Jared Tucker won a gift certificate for being the top ticket seller again this year. The Board of Directors would like to thank all the businesses that donated prizes and all the people that bought tickets. The money raised goes toward the cost of equipment, uniforms, etc. Awards The most important awards were the Good Sportmanship awards. These went to Hannah Daubenschmidt of the Sparrows and Evan Roe from the Red Sox. First Place The Sparrows ended the year in first place for softball with a perfect 14-0 record. The Sparrows are coached by Amy Poirier, Scott LaFreniere, Edna Tipton and Kathie LaFreniere. The players on the team are: Mollie Suprenant, Sierrah-Mae Ingham, Miah Poirier, Angela Russo and Hannah Daubenschmidt. Also on the team are: Erin Easton, Danielle LaPerle, Nina Listro, Mary-Kate Poirier, Zoe Listro, Alyssa Miller, Brittany LaFreniere, Elizabeth Start and Alyssa Daubenschmidt. First Place The Yankees finished the season in first place with a 10-4 record and won the championship game. The coaches for the squad are Kevin Thurston, Doug Sprague, Mike Hildenbrand and Al LaPerle. The Yankees players are: Alex Hicks, Zach Flaherty, Zane Shaw, Eric Hildenbrand, Caleb Chase, Cyrus Fullam, Jacob Sprague and Zach LaPerle. Also on the team are: Zack Shaw, Cody Thurston, John Mahaffy, Paul Mahaffy, Jay Swartz and Ben LeBlanc. Softball All-Stars The 11- and 12-year-old softball All-Stars for the Upper Valley, which includes, three Randolph teams, South Royalton, Bethel and Rochester, were also announced. The squad advanced right to the State tournament because they are the only team in District II. The state finals will be held in Swanton this year, from July 20-24. The players on the team are: Adrienne Dudek from the Hawks, Reba Hart of Bethel, Siobhan Chase and Samantha Johnson from the Falcons and from the Sparrows are, Mollie Surprenant, Danielle LaPerle, Angela Russo, Ashley LaFreniere and Erin Easton. The coaches are Scott LaFreniere of the Sparrows and Brian Dudek of the Hawks. 9 & 10 All-Stars The nine- and 10-year-old baseball All-Stars will be coached by Mike Hildenbrand from the Yankees and Rick LaPerle of the Dodgers this year. The tournament will be held in Manchester July 9-19 with the State Tourney held in Randolph July 27-31. The players on the team are: Nathan Gray from the Mets, Eric Hildenbrand and Alex Hicks of the Yankees, Alexis Ashley and Tyler Hill from the A’s and Gabe Strand and Garrett LaPerle from the Dodgers. Also on the team from the Red Sox are Connor Baker, Levi West and Nick Jickling. 11 & 12 All-Stars The older group of baseball All-Stars, the 11- and 12-year-olds will be coached by Kevin Thurston of the Yankees, Wally Caswell of the Dodgers and Matt Poirier of the Red Sox. The tournament will be held from June 30 to July 7 and will be in Randolph. The Randolph team faces Rutland Saturday, June 30 at 11 a.m. The state tourney will be in nearby Barre, July 27-31. The players are: Mead Binhammer from the Mets; Cody Thurston, Zach LaPerle, Jacob Sprague and Caleb Chase all from the Yankees; from the Dodgers team are Harry Dwinell, Ross Caswell, Brandon Keyes and Bryan Eaccarino; and rounding out the team are Mackenzie Poirier, Ben Jickling, Aaron West and Alex Gilbert, all from the Red Sox. The weather during the festivities was perfect without the rain or heat from the past few years. Everyone’s participation and help was greatly appreciated. ____________ |
