Couple with Local Ties An Ascutney couple with deep connections to the White River Valley were killed last Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Maine. Charles Voghell, 72, and Joyce Voghell, 63, died instantly when their Cadillac Seville was hit broadside by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Routes 117 and 35 in Hollis, state police in Maine said. According to police, the accident occurred after Charles Voghell, who was driving, failed to see a stop sign and ran the intersection, entering the path of a southbound truck. The truck driver was not injured, nor was he charged with any violations. Police said the Voghells were en route to visit friends in Falmouth. Charles Voghell was born in Randolph and attended Randolph schools, and his wife was born in Lebanon, N.H., and graduated from South Royalton High School. The Voghells lived for many years in Hartford village, moving to Ascutney several years ago. A complete obituary for the couple is in the B-section of this week’s Herald. ____________ |
