Whitcomb’s annual Varsity All-Sports Banquet was held Thursday, June 7 at Whitcomb High School. Sponsored by the Boosters, the evening commenced with a potluck dinner followed by greetings and opening remarks by Principal Andy West and Athletic Director Timothy Perreault. Booster President Lisa Hill spoke on behalf of the boosters and recognized parent and member Penny Griffin. Hill presented Griffin with an apple tree in appreciation for all she does for the sports programs from setting up and printing the schedules, team photo enlargements for display and stationary and invitation designs. Boys’ baseball coach Mike Crane presented 11 certificates to team manager and players with special comments addressing eighth-grade players Sam Taylor, Ethan Sennett and Dan Noel, without whose presence and participation Whitcomb would not have been able to field a team. Ben Cayer received the Defensive Player 2007 award. Ryan Rogler received the Offensive Player 2007 award. Sam Taylor received the Most Improved Player 2007 award. Coach’s award went to Deven Hill. Girls’ softball coach Ray Colton presented 12 certificates and provided some humorous moments concerning foreign exchange student Kerstin Krautlein’s introduction to and eventual participation on the team. Maggie Eddy received the Defensive Player 2007 award. Allison Richards and Molly Taylor shared Offensive Player 2007 award. Kerstin Krautlein received the most Most Improved Player 2007 award and the Coach’s award went to Molly Taylor. Track and field coach Kaleb Orr presented eight certificates. Meredith Kill received the Rookie of the Year award, Peer Burgos received the Most Outstanding Athlete award. Adam Sennett received the Most Improved Athlete and the Coach’s award went to Meredith Kill. Timothy Perreault presented both a certificate and an award to Matthew Durfee and Tyler Killian for the golf program. Girls’ lacrosse coach Ned Battey presented Laurel Adams the Offensive Player of the Year and recognized her participation on The Sharon Academy lacrosse squad. Adams was the top scorer with 42 goals for the season and scored 14 of those goals in the last three games. Boys’ basketball coach Jamie Kinnarney presented the following awards: Defensive Player, Deven Hill; Offensive Player, Brian Ward; and Most Improved Player and the Coach’s award, Mike Ennis. Girls’ basketball coach Timothy Perreault presented the following awards: Defensive Player, Tracy Zisselsberger; Offensive Player, Molly Taylor; Most Improved Player, Tia McKenna; and Coach’s award, Chelsie Brown. Mikayla Dieffenbach received the gymnastics award from coach Felicia Dieffenbach. Boys’ soccer coach Mike Crane presented awards to: Defensive Player 2006, Scott Killian; Offensive Player 2006, Brain Ward. The Most Improved Player 2006 was shared and went to Tyler Killian and Peter Burgos, and the Coach’s award went to Scott Killian. Girls’ soccer coach Gary Zisselsberger presented the following awards: Defensive Player 2006 to Chelsie Brown and Offensive Player 2006 to Molly Taylor (22 goals). Most Improved Player 2006 went to Killian White, and the Coach’s award to Emily Wright. The Debbie Pultz Basketball award to a girl for the most points scored in a single game was shared by Molly Taylor (against Williamstown on December 16, 2006) and Maggie Eddy (against Cabot on February 21, 2007), who both scored 18 points. The Gerald LaRock Basketball award to a boy for the most points scored in a single game went to Scott Killian (against Cabot on February 10, 2007) with 22 points scored. The Grant "Bucky" Isham Chairman of the Boards award went to Tracy Zisselsberger (135 rebounds) and Deven Hill (228 rebounds). And the final award of the evening and the most coveted, the Kim Baldwin Award, given to both a girl and a boy in the senior class went to Tracy Zisselsberger and Mike Ennis. ____________ |
