SoRo Art Teacher Standing Strong in Her Cancer Fight On Wednesday, May 16 local resident Robyn Farrell coordinated the Vermont "Livestrong Day" to assist in raising awareness for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The constant rain that day didn’t dampen her commitment to the cancer awareness cause. Farrell returned to Vermont in January of this year after enduring the fight of her life. She’d had a children’s art school in Pensacola, Fla. for nine years when she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. She began treatment there, but in the fall of 2004, Hurricane Ivan wreaked havoc on Pensacola, leaving her art school and home uninhabitable. She packed up and headed to California to take part in a clinical trial at University California Irvine. In 2006, Farrell traveled to The Lance Armstrong Foundation in Texas to participate as a Livestrong Summit Delegate. She is continuing her fundraising efforts for a cure for cancer by donating proceeds from commissioned portraits to The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Now a cancer survivor, Farrell has returned to the Green Mountains of Vermont and opened "Robyn's Art Studio" in South Royalton, offering classes for children as well as adults.
