A Student Forever; A Student No More! This is how Sue Forcier of Sharon, formerly of Randolph, describes her recent graduation from Antioch University New England, with a master’s degree in counseling psychology: "My 18 seconds of glory, and a lifetime of getting there." Forcier, who has four children, with the youngest now in college, said she herself was "college-bound" as a 16-year-old, when life stepped in with other plans. Instead of starting studies in music therapy, she fell in love, got married, and had babies. Then, other delays came along—including divorce, a full-time job cutting hair, and the continuing need "to be there for my family." "For all those years I never gave up hope of it (going to college) happening, she said. In the last eight years, Forcier finally got her chance to focus her considerable energies on getting her own education. She went to school full-time for six years, and part-time for another almost two years, while maintaining a full-time job. Forcier received her bachelor’s degree from Vermont College of Norwich University in January of 2004, and on May 5 of this year, her masters. Now, she is tackling the next challenge: Finding a job that uses her new skills. _________ |
