The Randolph boys baseball team ended their regular season with a bang, wrapping up with three straight victories. The Guy Ghosts defeated the Vergennes Commodores away last Thursday, 2-1 behind the strong pitching of senior Cody Montgomery. Jon White and Justin Messier scored the only two runs of the entire game. The Guy Ghosts continued their winning streak versus the Oxbow Olympians at home Thursday, downing them, 8-1. Pitcher Jon White pitched a great game with five strike-outs and held the Olympians scoreless until the end of the contest. Randolph’s offense started with a bang as they tallied seven runs in the first two innings. Leading the hit parade were Thomas Jacobs with two hits, one of those a triple and Mike Czok, who also hit a triple. Jacobs, Randolph’s starting catcher has been sidelined with a shoulder injury, and has been just DHing, but doing a great job of it as well. Defensively, in one inning, White and first baseman Andy Bent made all three quick outs. The Guy Ghosts ended their season with a make-up game versus South Royalton at home Monday, Memorial Day. Senior Mike Czok went the distance on the mound for Randolph, While the Royals started with senior Nate McShinsky. The Guy Ghosts won the exciting game, 7-5 despite a definite fan advantage for the Royals. Czok had six Ks, walked just two and gave up two earned runs. He helped his cause with two hits, including a triple. White and David Maxfield both had two hits as well, but Maxfield’s hits included a hard hit home-run, and with his speed, the Royals didn’t have a prayer of throwing him out at the plate. Right fielder Russell Messier had two good catches for timely outs. Big hits for SoRo came from Miles Ellis and Tyler Manning with doubles and Dusty Parker with two hits. The Guy Ghosts end their season with a 10-6 record, a lot better than most people had hoped for in this rebuilding year. It is likely Randolph will play at home today, Thursday, May 31 in their first play-off game. ____________ |
