Vt. Science & Tech Academy The Vermont Academy of Science and Technology honored 33 graduating high school seniors at a May 15 commencement ceremony on the Vermont Technical College campus. The academy, also known as VAST, is a program at Vermont Tech that allows high school seniors to complete their final year of high school and first year of college—tuition free—in the same year. "I’ve really enjoyed working with these special and talented students. I hope the year was as wonderful for them as it was for me," said Director Diana Mellar. The commencement ceremony was held at 6 p.m. in Judd Hall on Randolph Center campus. Graduates The 33 VAST graduates this May included eight from area towns: Leif Amber, of Chelsea and from Chelsea Public School, plans to attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., next year. Steven Blanchard, of Bethel and from Whitcomb High School, plans to enter the computer engineering technology program at VTC. Grace Garner, of Brookfield and from Randolph Union High School, plans to attend VTC. Emily Howe, of Randolph and from RUHS, plans to attend University of Vermont. Melissa McIntyre, of Randolph and from RUHS, plans to attend St. Joseph’s College, in West Hartford, Conn. Devin Noyes of Bethel and from South Royalton High School, plans to study mechanical engineering technology at VTC. Wesley Simpson of Braintree and from Randolph Union High School, plans to enter the computer engineering technology program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, Mass. Laura Upham of Chelsea and from Chelsea Public School, plans to attend Paul Smiths College, in Paul Smiths, New York. ____________ |
