After a busy week last week with five games, the Rochester Rockettes slowed it down to four this week, playing Proctor, West Rutland, and a double header against Twinfield. Proctor Rochester played in Proctor on Monday, May 14, winning 18-3. The Rockettes scored Desiree Bourassa in the first. She hit a double to start the game, and then came in off an error and a passed ball. Proctor scored their only three runs in the bottom of the first. Scoring in the second were Vanessa Mongeur, Caitlyn Cutting, and Bourassa, and in the third the Rockettes scored Kayla Shepard, Sheena Twitchell, and Kristen Gendron. Rochester added three runs in the fourth when Megan Pratt, Jody Martin, and Twitchell plated. The Rockettes went scoreless in the fifth but made up for it in the sixth, when they scored six—Gendron, Mongeur, Erica Parker, Bourassa, Pratt, and Martin. Scoring in the final inning to finish the game were Mongeur and Parker. Bourassa, Pratt, Shepard, and Mongeur each had a double and a single. Parker had two singles. Martin and Gendron each had one single. Gendron pitched the complete game, striking out six, allowing seven hits, and walking one. The Rockettes’ defense had a perfect game. West Rutland After many calls between schools to reschedule, the Rockettes made their way back over to the Rutland area on Tuesday, May 15. The final score was 9-2, W. Rutland. The Rockettes scored their only two runs in the fourth, bringing in Pratt and Shepard. Gendron pitched the entire seven-inning game striking out five, allowing seven hits, zero walks. Twinfield, Part I Testing their luck and playing two seven-inning games with just nine players, the Rockettes put up quite a fight. There was no scoring by either team until the fourth inning. Twinfield was the first to put any runs on the board, scoring two. Rochester scored Mongeur in the fifth, when she reached on a walk, and then scored off singles by Cutting, Parker, and Bourassa. Twinfield came back with three runs in the sixth. In true Rockette fashion, the pressure was on to come back in the seventh. The Lady Rockettes tried hard, adding three, Cutting, Parker, and Bourassa again, but fell short by one, making the final score 5-4, Twinfield. Gendron pitched the complete game, striking out seven, allowing eight hits, and zero walks. Twinfield, Part II A 15-minute break and everyone was ready to get started again, for the second half of the double header. This game was higher scoring, but just as intense. Parker led off the game with a single, followed by a single from Bourassa, and both came in to score. Twinfield answered back with three runs, for the 3-2 edge. Bourassa put an end to Twinfield’s rally with an unassisted double play. The Rockettes added two in the second, Cutting and Emily Chism, but Twinfield again scored three for a lead of 6-4. Neither Rochester nor Twinfield scored in the third. Cutting closed Twinfield out with a double play of her own, tagging the runner on the way by and then firing it over to Martin covering first. The Rockettes scored Bourassa in the sixth, and with the seventh and final inning upon the Rockettes, they continued to play hard till the end, scoring four—Cutting, Parker, Bourassa, and Martin. Rochester again fell short by just one run, 10-9, Twinfield. Bourassa made it safely on base seven out of nine times in the two games. Gendron, amazingly enough, completed another seven-inning game, striking out two, allowing nine hits, and walking three. The Rochester Rockettes will play at home against Rivendell Saturday and Whitcomb on Monday. ____________ |
