Lloyd G. Gray

BROOKFIELD—Lloyd G. Gray, 82, died early Monday morning, May 21, 2007 at Mayo Health Care in Northfield.

He was born March 31, 1925 in Clifton, Maine, the son of Judson and Jenny Gray. He was raised and educated in Maine, and had lived in Lewiston, Maine, Wakefield, R.I., then Arlington, Vt., before moving to Brookfield in 1980. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married to Marjorie LaClair on Aug. 11, 1974 in East Arlington.

In Maine he had been a logger and sawyer; he later worked for Hagelburg Saw Mill in Arlington from 1970-1980, then Lacaillade Lumber in Williamstown until 1990. He was a member of the American Legion in Arlington and the VFW of Manchester, Vt. He enjoyed gardening, working with his tractor, and tending his sheep.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Gray of Brookfield; daughters, Sonya Gardiner of Wakefield, R.I. and Donna Smith of Westerly, R.I.; step-sons, Reginald Jennings of Arlington, and Ronald Jennings of Shaftsbury; step-daughters, Sandra LaCross of Bennington and Janet Levine of North Bennington; his brother, Carl Gray of Clifton, Maine; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son Barry Gray, granddaughter Maggie Smith, and sisters, Evelyn Huckins and Idona Pinkham.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, at Brookfield Center Cemetery, with a reception following at Marjorie Gray’s home.
