The Randolph softball team jumped out to an early lead against Vergennes last week and won handily, 16-1. In the first inning seven runs were scored off base hits, errors, and four walks. Vergennes managed to squeeze one run in the first inning but the Lady Ghosts held them scoreless for the remainder of the five-inning game. Gwen Reis and Kelsey Higgins, who both went two for three, led Randolph's bats. Reis had two singles while Higgins hit a single and smashed a double to bring in the final run of the game. Eight of the nine players scored at least one run in the victory. Vergennes' Devon Lane pitched three innings giving up 10 runs, four hits, and five walks while striking out two. Amber Braun relieved her for the remainder of the game giving up six runs, five hits, one walk and struck out two. Morgan Stewart pitched for Randolph giving up two hits, one walk and struck out six. Lyndon 4, Randolph 2 Last Tuesday the Gal Ghosts traveled to Lyndon to come up just short. Lyndon remains undefeated, yet Randolph gave them a good game. In the first inning the Ghosts played smart, scoring their two lead-off batters, Katie Jickling and Emily Howe. However, when it was Lyndon's turn to bat, Randolph committed a couple errors, allowing them to score a run in the first. Randolph was unable to score again the rest of the game, but Lyndon managed to score another run in the third inning and one more in both the fifth and sixth innings. Jickling and Gwen Reis each had singles for the Ghosts. Winning pitcher Courtney Simpson struck out four and gave up two hits while the Vikings committed two errors. Morgan Stewart of Randolph struck out eight and gave up five hits while Randolph committed four errors. Randolph 5, Oxbow 2 Four runs were scored in the second inning for the Gal Ghosts on Thursday. Randolph held the Oxbow Olympians scoreless until the sixth inning when they scored two runs. Howe gave Randolph two solid hits while Reis and Higgins each contributed singles as well. Stewart struck out six and walked one. The pitcher from Oxbow got three strike-outs and gave up three hits. Randolph 13, U-32 1 Randolph raced past the U-32 Raiders on Saturday. Every Randolph player scored, due to timely hitting and a well-executed game of small ball. Despite U-32’s Julie Bigelow's valiant effort pitching, striking out 10, Randolph ran away with the win. Caitlin Mugford relieved Bigelow in the sixth inning, which is when the floodgates opened. Randolph stepped up in the seventh inning, scoring nine runs by taking advantage of four Raider errors and a walk. Amanda Gerstenmaier had an exceptional game, going three-for-five at bat with a well-hit triple. Randolph's Stewart completed the seven-inning outing with 11 strikeouts and giving up four hits. Ghosts 14, Northfield 0 On Tuesday the Lady Ghosts capitalized off 17 hits. Each inning Randolph was able to score at least one run en route to a 14-run shut-out against the Marauders of Northfield. Randolph's aggressive bats were led by freshman Arielle Connolly, who went four-for-five with three RBI's. Reis and Gerstenmaier each had two RBI's as well. Kandi Tyner pitched the complete game for Northfield. Five errors and six walks plagued the Marauders. Stewart and Ashley Chase had a great game together. Chase threw out two runners trying to advance to second. Stewart struck out five and gave up two hits. In the sixth inning Amanda Angell and Heather Mugford relieved Stewart and Chase. Angell got two strike-outs, then walked the last batter, but on the next pitch Mugford picked off the runner trying to steal second. J.V. Girls The J.V. softballers brought their record to 5-2 with two wins vs. Vergennes, 18-6 and 20-2, and two losses to Lyndon, 5-4 and 11-4. The pitchers in the doubleheader against Vergennes were Kristy Tabor and Amanda Howard. Shane Reis had four singles, Bryn Keenhold had three hits and five walks. The first game of the doubleheader vs. Lyndon was a great game with Kristy Tabor and Mikala Frenette pitching and catching in the 5-4 loss. Frenette also had two singles and Keenhold had a triple and a single. The second game was an 11-4 loss for Randolph. Amanda Howard pitched and Keenhold and Frenette were the catchers. ____________ |
