Crab Apple Tree In Full Array This week-end the century-old crab apple tree that graces the little green park fronting the Randolph municipal building is in full bloom. If anyone is interested in knowing why this tree is so much a village treasure they should go along to Summer Street and view it at its best. The tree is dated from at least the 1860s from old photographs found in the Randolph Historical Society Museum. And it probably approaches 150 years old. The village is fortunate to have this living relic of our past, and we can appreciate why the Vermont Forester and the Vt. Tree Society have cited this crab apple as a significant tree of its species and worthy of preserving. We can also appreciate that this ancient crab apple tree has been listed in the National Register of Big Trees in Washington, D.C. Leigh Wright Randolph |
