Free Breakfast Offered Friday
If You Walk or Bike to Work

If Randolph's early morning "rush hour" seems lighter on Friday, May 18, there may be a good reason for it: Your fellow workers and colleagues may have left their cars at home.

At least that's what organizers of the National Bike/Walk to Work Day hope.

Across the country, people are being encouraged to participate in the national event within their communities by walking or biking to work, or by getting there any way they can without using a motor vehicle.

Locally, Bike/Walk to Work Day is being sponsored by Upper Valley RideShare and by Gifford Medical Center. RideShare Director Susan Berry said her program has been coordinating the program for three years, but that this is the first time in Randolph.

"I am hoping for 70 people," she said.

In Randolph, the efforts of participants will be recognized at the village gazebo, with free light breakfasts available 6:30-8:30 a.m.

Participants can also register at the gazebo for a drawing of prizes that will take place later in the day, including bicycle helmets, bike headlamps, sports raincoats, and a family pool pass to the Randolph Recreation Area.

The names of winners will be posted on the web site www.bike2work-day.com at the end of the day. Those who live too far away to complete the entire trip on foot are urged to drive only part way, then travel the remaining distance under their own power. And those who already commute under their own power are urged to stop at the gazebo as well.

Local sponsors of the gazebo breakfast include The Depot, McDonalds, ClearSource, and Dunkin' Donuts. Prize sponsors include Gifford Medical Center, Integrative Health and Massage Therapy, and the Randolph Recreation Department.
