Kingsolver Will Read

From New Book at VLS

Vermont Law School will host a book reading by noted author Barbara Kingsolver at the Chase Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25. The book reading is free and open to the public.

In her new book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life," Kingsolver traces a year of growing much of her own food, connecting with the local farmers who grow the rest—and then savoring the meals she prepares with her family.

Reviewer Nina Planck in Publishers Weekly writes, "Her tale is both classy and disarming, substantive and entertaining, earnest and funny...

"Kingsolver is not the first to note our national ‘eating disorder’ and the injuries industrial agriculture wreaks, yet this practical vision of how we might eat instead is as fresh as just-picked sweet corn."

Earlier that day, from 5 to 6 p.m., the Farmers Diner in Quechee will host a reception for Kingsolver. The reception will benefit two local agriculture groups: the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) and Valley Food and Farm, part of Vital Communities.

The reception will feature fresh, local appetizers with ingredients from area farms, and a cash bar. Call 295-4600 for tickets.
