A rally in the seventh inning secured the win for the Lady Hornets when the West Rutland Golden Horde came to Bethel. West Rutland took the lead early after they loaded the bases with walks and then scored off an error at short followed by another run after another walk reloaded the bases. West Rutland scored their third and fourth runs after Chyla Washburn tripped, then scored off a passed ball and Katie Lincoln singled, moved over off the passed ball, stole third and crossed the plate off an error at home. Whitcomb’s Maggie Eddy reached on error and scored the first Hornet run off Allison Richards’ single base hit for 4-1 after two innings. Whitcomb mustered two fruitless singles in the third before cutting West Rutland’s lead to one in the fourth. An Eddy walk started things off followed by a Richard hit. Eddy scored, Virginia Wortman walked and Megan Morse singled to short and scored Wortman for the two- run inning. The only action in the fifth was a Maggie Eddy triple, as neither team scored. In the sixth inning Katie Lincoln was hit by a pitch at the start and scored on a passed ball before Katie Ponto doubled and scored off an error at third. Singles by Richards and Wortman gave the Hornets two more runs when both scored off singles by Washburn and Chelsie Brown. On the seventh Chyla Washburn singled in Katelyn Nickerson and the Golden Horde was up by two. Trailing, it was do-or-die and Whitcomb did it up right with Maggie Eddy bunting to get on. Tia McKenna singled, and Richards smacked a two-RBI triple to tie the score. Washburn singled in the wining run for the victory. One-Run Win Whitcomb welcomed the Rochester Rockettes to Bethel this past Monday and it was another seventh inning win as the Hornets bested their rivals by one, 16-15. Rochester scored twice at the top of the game when Jody Martin singled in Desi Bourassa, who got hit by a pitch to get on, and Kayla Shepard scored on a passed ball. Whitcomb went one better in the bottom of the inning when Molly Taylor doubled and scored off an Emily Wright hit. Wright scored off a Wortman double and Wortman scored before the inning ended. Whitcomb helped the Rochester cause during the second inning by loading the bases four times. A walk, a hit batter and another walk loaded the bases. Erica Parker brought in two with a hit to center field before another walk scored another run. Two more walks scored two more runs , and Kayla Shepard RBI’d a run with a single to right field. Another walk scored the seventh run of the inning before the Hornets went 1-2-3 with a fielder’s choice at home, a throw to first and a pop-fly. At 9-3 the Hornets were down but not out. Rochester added one in the third when Bourassa scored Caitlyn Cuttings before Whitcomb gathered four. Wright doubled and scored off a Washburn single, Richards singled and scored off a steal, Wortman walked and scored off a Megan Morse tap, and Washburn scored off Kerstin Krutlein’s single. It was a tied game after the fourth when Whitcomb held the Rockettes scoreless but added three runs. Richards doubled McKenna and Wright who walked and singled to get on, and Washburn scored Richards when she reached on an error. Rochester went back up by three in the fifth when they held the Hornets back after they scored Cutting, Parker and Bourassa. In the sixth Bourassa scored Kristen Gendron and Cuttings, who walked and singled, respectively. In the bottom of the sixth the Hornets really made some noise. Richards’ single to right field and Wortman’s hit-by-pitch base brought up Washburn who singled in both runners. Morse singled and Krautlein walked, bringing up Taylor who connected for a 3 RBI grand-slam and six runs for a 16-15 point Hornet lead. Needing three quick ones to hold on to the lead, the Hornets threw out Vanessa Mongour at first, caught Kayla Shepard’s pop-fly and struck out Sheena Twitchill. Taylor struck out ten after relieving Wright in the second. Win Over Huskies The Hornets out-scored the Cabot Huskies to take their record to 6-2 with a 17-7 victory in Bethel on Tuesday.
