WASHINGTON—Pearl Duval, 85, formerly of Randolph and South Royalton, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. She was born November 9, 1921, in East Hampton, Mass., the daughter of Villis and Nellie (Dominy) Longtin. She moved to Randolph at an early age and attended Randolph schools. Following her education, she married Edward J. Duval Sept. 27, 1937, in Moores Fork, N.Y. They made their home in Randolph for many years. In earlier years, she had worked at Savage’s Mill in Randolph. She later worked for many years at Villa Nova in Randolph, where she was known as "Minnie Pearl." She loved to dance. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, visiting with family and friends, and going to the Tunbridge Fair. Survivors include her companion of many years, Robert Burke of Washington; five sons, Edward Duval of Toms River, N.J., Robert Duval, William Duval and Michael Duval, all of Randolph, Kenneth Duval of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four daughters, Carol O’Connell of Hyde Park, Sandra Sumner of Hartland, Patricia Burke of South Royalton, and Sherry Lumbra of Barre; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband in 1984, and two sisters, Mildred Whitaker and Helen Longtin. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 7, at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Rev. Rilling led a time of remembrance where he shared a poem selected by Pearl’s granddaughter Meredith, "If Tears Could build a Stairway." Memories were shared by a granddaughter, Tina, and the congregation sang "You Are My Sunshine." Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Randolph. Pallbearers were Doug O’Connell, Michael and Brandi Duval, Gene Lumbra, Richard O’Connell, Ken, Robert and Bobby Duval. A reception followed at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel. Arrangements were by the Day Funeral Home of Randolph. ____________ |
