Sharon Girl
Gets Appointment
To Naval Academy

Baldwin, daughter of Chip and Cynthia Baldwin of Sharon, has been offered and has accepted a fully qualified appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. as a member of the class of 2011.

The appointment comes with a full scholarship, and will lead to a post as a commissioned officer upon graduation. Baldwin was nominated by Senator Patrick Leahy, former Senator Jim Jeffords, and then Congressman Bernie Sanders.

As a student at Hartford High School, Baldwin has proven her strong leadership skills while serving for four years as Student Council President, and as an active member of the National Honor Society for the past two years. Also active in sports, Baldwin has played on both the varsity softball team and varsity field hockey team, where she has been the team captain.

Baldwin has also seen success academically as a member of the high school’s honors program for four years, and as the school’s representative to the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership retreat. Baldwin is also involved in her community as a volunteer at the Quechee Balloon Festival. A talented clarinet player, Baldwin has been named to the District Band, the All-State Band, and the All-New England Band.

"Morgan’s scholastic and athletic successes have certainly prepared her for the challenges she will face at Annapolis," said Sen. Leahy. "She brings her commitment to service to a higher level with her desire to serve her country at this important time."

Students must meet rigorous academic, physical and mental requirements to attend a United States service academy. Obtaining a congressional nomination is one part of the qualification process.
