Royals Baseballers Win Three Straight By Nathan McShinsky The South Royalton Royals are now nearing the end of a seven- game home stretch. They have come back from two losses to win the last three and have improved to 3-2. SoRo hosted the Rochester Rockets on the 25th and came away with a big win 13-4 after a three run first ignited the Royals’ offense. A four run fifth inning sealed the deal for the Royals. The Royals scored three runs in the first and two runs in the second, before scoring four in the fourth, and four in the fifth. Rochester's runs came in the sixth and seventh innings. The Royals were led by Miles Ellis and Tyler Manning on the offensive side with Ellis going 2-3 with a triple in the first that scored two runs, he also scored two runs. Tyler was 2-4 and scored three times, while his cousin Tyrell Manning was 3-5 with a triple in the fifth. Zach Witts also had a double in the fifth in a substitution opportunity. On the mound for the Royals was Dustin Parker who started and pitched four innings, facing 15 batters, fanning nine of them, allowing just two hits, and a walk. The last three innings were thrown by Tyrell Manning facing 16 and fanning three while allowing four hits, a walk, and one run as the other three were unearned due to four errors in the field. For Rochester Brian Dunbar threw five innings and Taylor Fuller threw the final two as the Royals combined for 13 runs on 13 hits with two triples, two stolen bases, while striking out seven times. Rochester had six errors on the day. John Champion led the way for Rochester going 2-2 and Scott Mitchell was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Win vs. Rivendell The Royals played hosts to Rivendell on the 27th and came away with another win to get SoRo back to .500. They used a three run third inning to take the lead for good and added an insurance run in the fifth for the 5-2 win. Rivendell scored a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead before the Royals tied it in the bottom half. The Raptors scored a run again in the third, but it was their last run of the game. The Royals added three runs in the third off two walks, an error, a hit, and a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the 4-2 edge. On the mound for the Royals was Tyler Manning who threw a complete game striking out 13, while walking five. For the Raptors Kevin McCarthy threw six innings facing 27, fanning nine, while allowing five walks, two hits, and three earned runs. Win vs. Chelsea The Royals varsity hosted the Red Devils at Alumni Field on Tuesday, May 1. It was a long game, but the Royals came out with a win, 12-8. Both teams’ offense started immediately with Chelsea putting together a three-run first and the Royals with a two-run first. The Royals added three in the second for the 5-3 lead and then another five in the fourth for a 10-3 lead. In the fifth and sixth innings the Red Devils came back with five runs to close the gap to two, 10-8. The Royals scored two insurance runs in the sixth. The Royals were led by Ellis with three singles and a triple. Tyler Manning had two doubles and Nate McShinsky helped himself on the mound with a 2-4 outing at the plate, with a double. McShinsky pitched a complete game for SoRo seeing 40 batters on 116 pitches with six Ks and one walk. For Chelsea Calvin Hoyt threw four innings and Luke Crocker finished the final three. Jim Welch led the way for Chelsea going 3-5 with four RBI's and two runs, while Mike Ryan was 3-5 with a double and two runs. The Royals (3-2) finish their home stand with Stowe on Thursday and Rutland on Saturday the 5th before going away for five in a row. The JV boys are 1-1 and played on Wednesday vs. Thetford and face Rutland away Friday. ____________ |
