Three Tough Losses For Lady Ghosts

By Morgan Stewart

Last Thursday the Lady Ghosts faced the Raiders of U-32, and took the loss 5-1. Randolph struggled to hit off the quick pitching delivered by Julie Bigelow but managed to squeeze in one run in the fourth inning.

Freshman Arielle Connolly made it around the bases to score the lone run for Randolph. Katie Jickling and Amanda Gerstenmaier both got base hits off Bigelow. Randolph made two errors in the loss.

Randolph pitcher Morgan Stewart gave up five hits and two walks while striking out four.

U-32 was led by pitcher Julie Bigelow who gave up two hits and four walks while striking out 10. The Raiders had five errors in their win over Randolph.

Harwood 13, Randolph 6

Randolph had a big first inning against Harwood Monday with lead off hitter Katie Jickling reaching first on a walk and then senior Emily Howe hitting an in-the-park home run. Three more Gal Ghosts scored in the first inning off of aggressive hitting and inconsistent pitching leading to walks. Gwen Reis, Gerstenmaier and Connolly all scored in the top of the first. After Randolph's big first inning they were only able to score once more in the fifth off of three walks and a base hit.

Harwood responded in the first by getting lead off batter Ashley Sweet on with a base hit. She then stole second, advanced to third on a play to first, and scored when Tasha Yandow hit the ball to shortstop and the out was made at first. In the second inning Harwood scored three more runs, added one in the third, and in the fifth and sixth innings were able to get timely hitting to score seven more runs. Harwood's Sweet (two for four), Tasha Yandow (two for four), and Britteny Hoare (two for four) provided powerful hitting.

Winning pitcher Sweet gave up four hits and five walks while striking out five. Harwood committed three errors. Randolph's Stewart pitched five innings before being relieved by Howe. In six innings the Gal Ghosts were plagued by five fielding errors.

Lamoille 2, Randolph 1

Tuesday's game at Randolph against the Lamoille Lancers was scoreless until the fifth inning. With runners in scoring position in the first and third innings Randolph was on their toes and the infield made outstanding stops holding the Lancers scoreless. Both teams seemed to have the same mentality, making solid defensive stops provided by consistent fielding and numerous strikeouts from both pitches.

Lamoille finally connected on a few hits to score runners in the fifth and sixth innings. Randolph fought back in the top of the sixth. With runners in scoring position Howe was able to rush home on a hit down the third baseline. Unfortunately, Randolph was not able to continue their rally to catch up to the Lancers. Jickling went two for four, Connolly went two for three, and Stewart went one for three, providing the only hits for Randolph.

Randolph's pitcher Stewart and catcher Ashley Chase had a solid game together getting three strikeouts and allowing six hits. Kylie Pratt of Lamoille went the distance with seven strikeouts and gave up five hits.

Randolph will host Vergennes on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

J.V. Girls

The J.V. girls defeated SoRo’s J.V. Saturday, 8-7. It was a great game with good sportsmanship all around. Kristy Tabor went the distance for Randolph with battery-mate Mikala Frenette. Emily Beaudin had a double, and Frenette had two singles.

SoRo’s Willow Manning had a double.

The Randolph J.V. team is 3-0.
