RUHS Boys Off To .500 Start

The Randolph boys opened up the first four games of their baseball season 2-2, with wins at home against U-32 and Lamoille, and away losses at Northfield and Harwood.

Northfield Loss

The Randolph boys opened up the season with a 10-8 loss at the hands of the Northfield Marauders.

Randolph scored four runs in the third inning off a couple of walks and a David Maxfield single and a Thomas Jacobs double. But a five-run inning for Northfield put the Marauders ahead 7-5. Northfield also added three runs in the sixth for the five-run edge, 10-5.

The Ghosts added three runs in the seventh to close the gap to two, 10-8. The losing pitcher was Cody Montgomery.

U-32

Randolph came from behind against U-32 to win, 5-4. Mike Czok threw 6 and 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, and Jon White came in to close the game for Randolph.

U-32 struck first in the first inning with a pair of runs and in the second they added an additional run to lead 3-0.

Justin Messier led off the second with a double, and was hit around with a sacrifice and a fielders’ choice. Randolph added a pair of runs to tie it up in the third inning with a Dustin Brassard triple, and singles by Maxfield and Czok.

The Ghosts took the lead in the next inning after a single by Maxfield scored Kyle Connolly from second. U-32 added a run in the seventh, but the Ghosts held off the Raiders for the 5-4 win.

Harwood Loss

Randolph traveled to Harwood on Monday and lost, 12-8. Thomas Jacobs hit a two-run home run in the first, and Messier added a double It was a cold miserable day and the Guy Ghosts left their hits at home.

Lamoille Win

The Randolph boys played Lamoille at home Tuesday and won 10-4.

Randolph came back from a 4-1 deficit in the fourth to a 7-4 lead after the inning. Maxfield and Russel Messier hit doubles, and Andy Bent, Jacobs, Montgomery and Czok later added a three-run homer to dead center to push the score to 10-4, Randolph.

Jon White pitched solidly in his first varsity start, going the distance, giving up one walk and eight hits while striking out five.

Randolph plays Vergennes at home Thursday and travels to Lyndon Tuesday, May 8.
