Stolen Offering Returned Good news! The offering stolen from Sts. Donatian & Rogatian Catholic Church on Sunday, April 15, was returned the following Saturday. Fr. John Milanese told The Herald Monday that the offering was "returned intact." However, he said he could not divulge any further details, as he was "under the seal of confession." The collection, which was counted Monday, totaled about $1500 in regular contributions, plus several hundred dollars more towards construction of a new church. Because of the big crowd attending the April 15 mass, led by Bishop Matano, the missing offering was larger than usual. It was likely taken from Sts. D&R following the morning mass, and during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Catholic church on Route 66, to be called Our Lady of Angels. Collections are routinely secured immediately after mass, but that step was forgotten in the excitement of the day. It wasn't until the next day, April 16, that church secretary Norma Nadeau noticed the collection was missing. | |||||
