Woodard at Fiddlehead Festival

Ben Ash as Antoine and Scott Renzoni as Vietnam vet Tommy star in Lost Nation Theater's revival of Vermont playwright David Budbill's "Judevine" starting this weekend in Montpelier.

The planning team for the first-ever Fiddlehead Festival in Randolph Saturday, May 5 looked no further than Vermont’s own George Woodard as the choice for entertainment to cap off the new day-long festival celebrating everything that is agriculture. The evening’s performance will take place from 7-9 p.m. at Chandler Music Hall.

Woodard, a dairy farmer, actor and film director from Waterbury Center, will perform old-time familiar songs as well as a few newer ones, tell some good jokes and a few tall tales. He brings a unique come-as-you-are, sit-back, relaxed style of music, humor and storytelling.

Some folks know Woodard as an actor, on both stage and screen, and others know him as a comedian with the somewhat regular Ground Hog Opry Show. Recently he has been making a name for himself as a feature film director with his first film, "The Summer of Walter Hacks," currently in post-production. The audience in Randolph will see the first public sneak-peek trailer of this original film.

Woodard is known for his semi-regular (every other year or two or three) Ground Hog Opry which has taken the winter blues out of Vermonters for over 10 years.

This will be George’s one and only public appearance this year, so purchasing tickets in advance is recommended. Tickets are available at the Chandler Music Hall box office at 728-6464 or go to www.chandler-arts.org.

This performance is sponsored by Chandler Center for the Arts, with generous support from Stonyfield Farm. Chandler Music Hall is wheelchair accessible.
