Gerard J. Neron

SOUTH ROYALTON—Gerard Joseph "Jerry" Neron, 96, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in the Garden Room at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born July 25, 1910 in Lawrence, Mass., at the son of Joseph and Edwidge Neron.

Growing up, he lived in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania and had very fond memories of his childhood. He was the youngest of 14 children. He often traveled by train with his mother to Quebec, Canada, where he spent many of his childhood summers visiting family.

On August 12, 1936, he married Helen L. Touchette. They lived in Montgomery Center, where he worked as a logger until they moved to South Royalton in 1959. For many years he worked at the Hillcrest Poultry Plant in South Royalton. In January of this year he moved to Wilder. He was known for his sharp memory.

Survivors include three sons: Paul Neron of Stratham, N.H.; Louis Neron of St. Croix, USVI, and Robert Neron of Royalton; five daughters, Shirley Sweet of Franklin, Barbara Broe of Wilder, Rita Owusu of Cumberlin, R.I., Therese Delemarre of Sharon, and Anita Smith of Connecticut; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen on April 17, 1998, a son Roger Neron in 1992, and two granddaughters, Rosemarie and Debra Broe.

There were no public calling hours. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 7, at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea, with Rev. Betty Edson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Branchview Cemetery in South Royalton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Room Fund, in care of Gifford Medical Center, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, Vt., 05060.
