Maple Syrup
And Computers

The March 29 Herald had quite an article about making maple syrup. It brings back so many precious memories of when my Dad made maple syrup. Hard work, indeed it was, because we didn’t have an evaporator. The maple sap was gathered from all the buckets by hand and it took at least three days of hard boiling before it was syrup, so when it started to boil, my Dad would add more sap to the big pan that set on and arch—and did that maple sap vapor smell so good!

During war-time white sugar was rationed, and boy that homemade syrup and sugar came in might handy.

People make fun of the so-called "good old days" but from memory, I think some were better than today’s world. Especially when one hears so much about computers and what’s going into them and it’s not all good either.
