AQHA Names Walters
Top ‘Rookie’ Rider

Allegra Walters of Randolph Center has won the American Quarter Horse Association’s "Youth Justin Rookie" award for Vermont.

This award is given to the youth rider in each state who earns the most national points in his or her first season of showing in the youth division. Allegra won points in Western pleasure, horsemanship, hunt seat equitation, showmanship, and halter, at shows in Massachusetts, New York, and New Hampshire.

Allegra began riding in 2000 at Rough Terrain Farm, a boarding, training, and teaching facility in Randolph Center. Her passion for horses and riding was clear from the start and has not wavered in the past seven years of taking lessons and working at the farm on weekends.

After buying her quarter horse, Zipped on Heir (better known as Cisco), she began showing in the summer of 2004 in Vermont shows, and in 2006 she competed in AQHA shows in the northeast.

During the past three seasons, Allegra and Cisco have won multiple state championships with the Vermont Quarter Horse Association, many of which were based on national point earnings.

Last summer’s highlights included winning an AQHA High Point All-Around Runner Up award at a four-day show in New Hampshire and an AQHA Performance Register of Merit that acknowledges Cisco’s consistent performance and point earnings in youth classes.

Allegra currently is preparing for the 2007 show season, with the goal of attending the AQHA Congress (world show) in the future.
