SOUTH ROYALTON—Richard Joseph Burke, 68, died Sunday, March 25, 2007 at his home. He was born, July 8, 1938 in Rutland, the son of James H. and Lovica (Rivers) Burke. He attended school in Rutland. He later moved to South Royalton where he married Jennie Howe on July 16, 1977. They lived all their married life in South Royalton. She died November 13, 2000. He worked for many years at Vermont Castings Stove Co. in Randolph. He also worked for Harold Jacobs in South Royalton as a painter. On June 22, 2002, he married Pearline Robinson of Montpelier, and they lived in South Royalton on Mill Road. He enjoyed watching TV, doing word search and crossword puzzles, playing the saw, spoons and harmonica; dancing, listening to country music and singing karaoke. Survivors include his wife, Pearline of South Royalton; a stepson, Eugene Robinson of Barre; three step-daughters: Sheila Rogers and Tina Beede of Barre, and Alice Caron of Eden; nine brothers: Robert A. Burke, Frank Burke, Louis Burke and Raymond Burke, all of Rutland; Wayne Burke of Barre, Robert D. Burke of Washington, James Burke of Pittsford, William Burke of Wells, and Thomas Burke of Milton; eight sisters: Rita Hier and Nancy Hodgdon of Rutland, Margaret Grenier of Mt. Holly, Beatrice Shaw of N. Clarendon, Judith Robinson of Castleton, Jean Hier of Fair Haven, Elizabeth Conway of Louisville, Ky., and Rosemary Haskins of Mendon. He was predeceased by one sister, Shirley Withington. Calling hours were held at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea, Tuesday, March 27. A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 28 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Rice officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Branch View Cemetery in South Royalton. ____________ |
