Pauline G. Ellis

SOUTH ROYALTON—Pauline G. Ellis, 84, died Saturday evening, March 17, 2007 at her home in South Royalton. She was born June 18, 1922 in Lebanon, N.H., the daughter of Charles and Helen (Chase) Pillsbury.

She grew up and attended schools in Lebanon, N.H.; graduating from Lebanon High School in 1940. She married Richard W. Ellis January 4, 1942 in White River Jct. They first made their home in Springfield, and later lived in Lebanon, N.H. for a couple of years, before moving to South Royalton. Along with raising their four children, she also helped her husband run their music store, Ellis Music.

She loved children and her house was a "home away from home" for her children’s friends, many of whom still called her "Mom." She also loved animals and was known to have an open door for any and all stray cats and dogs. She enjoyed singing and performed with several area groups, especially the "Vocalairs" of South Royalton. She also sang at the annual Lion’s Club Variety Show for several years

She was a member of the South Royalton Woman’s Club and an extremely active member of the United Church of South Royalton where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on nearly every committee on the church council. She loved to travel and go bowling.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Richard "Dick" Ellis of South Royalton; daughter and son-in-law, David R. and Ann Greenawalt-Ellis of South Royalton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn A. and Richard C. Keith of New London, N.H.; daughter and son-in-law Marti J. and David W. Lewis of South Royalton; daughter and son-in-law, Joan Ellis Tabor and Bob Tabor of Bethel; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Ginn, of Gorman, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. A funeral service took place Wednesday, March 21 at the United Church of South Royalton with the Rev. James Proctor officiating.
