Selectboard Result

A revote in the Royalton town offices last Thursday evening confirmed the results of the Town Meeting voting for selectboard, according to Town Clerk Theresa Harrington.

Ernie Amsden maintained his seven-vote margin over Glenn Grote, with a vote of 138-131, with Eric Benson trailing with 116. These were the exact totals recorded on Town Meeting day.

For Amsden it had been a case of deja-vu all over again. A year ago, he appeared to have one election by just one vote. Denis Ives asked for a recount, and the result was reversed, giving Ives the victory 202-199.

However, Ives left office early because of a job change, and it was the remainder of his selectboard term that was up for election this year.

Regardless of his experience last year, Amsden told the Valley News that he thought Grote did the "right thing" by asking for a recount, because it was so close.
