Sidewalks Aren't
Being Cleared

By the time the paper comes out in 50-degree weather my question may prove inane, but with an eye to the future—am I the only resident who has had difficulty navigating downtown Randolph this winter?

Sidewalk snow removal has seemed in 2007 particularly weak. Within two blocks of Main Street there have been sidewalks with great stretches of unremoved snow for days or weeks after a storm.

Where people trudged through the snow and it froze into craters, the sidewalks became virtually unnavigable. There were only two big storms this winter (at the time of this writing), yet I've had to walk down the middle of School, Fales and Main Streets on many days. Friends have seen seniors "struggling" on South Pleasant Street and "skating" to church. The space between Randolph House and Kimball Library was more than once a total joke.

I've fallen two, three, four times every winter; if that's my experience, what about the elderly and infirm? Must they stay home? I don't mean to complain in a public forum, I'm just asking: Whose job is this, why isn't it being done, and am I the only person who's noticed?
