Semi-Pro Footballers? Vermont Technical College might provide the practice fields for a new semi-pro Vermont Ravens football team, Town Manager Peter Butterfield told the selectboard Tuesday. He said he had met with VTC President Ty Handy on the project. Little information was available at press-time, but a VTC spokesperson confirmed that "We are hoping to be able to help the Ravens by giving them access to a practice field. However, like everything around here these days it is under snow and would be tough for the team organizers to evaluate whether it would be suitable." Vermont has increasingly found success in hosting semi-pro athletic teams. In addition to the minor league Expos baseball team in Burlington, it has hosted the semi-pro Mountaineers baseball team in Montpelier and just recently the extremely successful semi-pro Frost Heaves, a basketball franchise which plays half its games in Burlington and half at the Barre Auditorium. |
