Mini-Mud Madness At Chandler Music Hall! (See full page of photos in the print edition) Something brand new was born on the stage of Chandler Music Hall last Friday night, and the birth was attended by 600 whooping, cheering enthusiasts. Building on the annual success of the Mud Season Variety Show at the Music Hall, Chandler's new outreach director, Betsy Cantlin, prepared a similar event—but this one focused on the talents of youngsters and teenagers, thus the title "Mini-Mud." Kids danced, sang, played the drums and the cello, read from their own writing. Two of them had memorized(!) the incomparable skit, "Who's on First." It was an experiment, but what a success. Almost every seat was filled and the rafters reverberated with the unbridled encouragement that has become the hallmark of Chandler audiences. Folks attended from every stratum and interest-group of Central Vermont society. It might be remarked that the success of community events such as "Mini-Mud" doubtless have had a lot to do with why Randolph voters agreed by a two to one margin last week to dig deeply into their pockets for needed renovations for the Hall's second 100 years. —M.D.D. |
