SPRINGFIELD — Laurence M. Pratt, Jr., 84, died Monday morning, March 5, 2007 at Springfield Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 3, 1922 in Stockbridge, the son of Laurence and Ruth (Snyder) Pratt. He attended schools in both Stockbridge and Bethel, and graduated from Bethel High School. He later went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. On December 21, 1942 he married Priscilla A. Manning in Randolph. They made their home in Springfield for most of their lives. He was employed at the Jones and Lamson Machine Company for over 30 years, working on the assembly floor. He was a life member of the Robert L. Johnson Post 771 VFW, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors. His favorite hobby, along with his wife, was dancing. Survivors include his wife Priscilla of Springfield; a son, Douglas N. Pratt Sr. of Springfield; two daughters, Charlotte R. Sherman of Charlestown, N.H. and Tina P. Mitchell of Springfield; a sister, Matilda Hodgkins of Bethel; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Warren Pratt, and two sisters, Ruth A. Hoyt and Olive Pratt. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield; Reverend Marty Bascom of East Randolph, Vermont will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at a later date.
