Joan M. Keene

BROOKFIELD—Joan Marie Keene, 65, a former long-time resident of Northfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. She was born in Barre, June 3, 1941, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel (Bussino) Knowles. She attended Montpelier High School.

On August 24, 1958 she married Thomas Tyler Keene, Sr. in East Montpelier. They made their home in Northfield from 1958 until they moved to their present home in Brookfield in 1979.

She worked for several years at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Montpelier, seven years for AAA in Montpelier and then for the Northfield Savings Bank in Northfield for almost 20 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose Club in Barre. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, many other crafts, camping, tending her garden and spending time with her many grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Keene, Sr. of Brookfield; her mother, Hazel Clark of Riverton, Wyo.; four children: Rose LeFebvre and her husband, Mark of Stafford, Va.; Thomas Keene, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Brookfield; Patrick Keene and his wife, Kelly of Williamstown; and Gordon Keene and his companion, Sue, of Barre; four siblings: Jeanne Lajeunesse, Alfred Knowles, Jr., Judy Shifferns, all of Wyoming; and Joyce Wheeler of East Montpelier; 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Mark, Amanda, Thomas III, Bryant, Andrew, Emma, Destiny, Samantha, and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Ayesha and Sean; and many nieces and nephews.

There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held Friday, March 2 at the Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield. Burial will take place at a later date in the Brookfield Center Cemetery.
