‘Creative Curriculum’ Exhibit The Chandler Gallery on Main St. in Randolph will host "The Creative Curriculum," this year’s exhibit from March 9-April 1. The exhibit will feature work by students in Grades K-12 from a wide spectrum of area schools including Bethel Elementary Braintree, Brookfield, Chelsea, Northfield, Randolph Elementary, Randolph Union High School, South Royalton, Stockbridge, The Wellspring School and Whitcomb High School. Sponsored by The Vermont Art Teachers Association and the Vermont Department of Education, the exhibit shows work that represents how area art curriculums creatively reflect the Vermont Grade Expectations in the arts. "Viewers will have an opportunity to more fully appreciate the depth and content of what students are studying in school and reflect on the creativity and imagination they use in creating unique solutions to art assignments," notes art teacher Rebecca Carleton. "There is a striking example of how students grow and develop artistic skills and the ability to communicate with power and purpose through the arts in a series of self -portraits." The exhibit begins with expressive kindergarten watercolor portraits from Chelsea and whimsical clay faces done by Randolph Elementary first and second graders and progresses into sophisticated expressions of self by Randolph Union High School Students Brinn Fabian and Chris Sparadeo, as well as a parallel set of portraits by South Royalton High School students. There will be a reception for artists and the community Friday, March 9 from 5-7 p.m. at Chandler Gallery. Immediately afterwards, Chandler’s first Mini Mud Talent Show will highlights area students’ abilities in the performing arts. Exhibits of the Creative Curriculum will also be held in March at the State House in Montpelier and the Vermont Department Of Education, featuring additional examples of student art work. ____________ |
