Royals End Season 9-10
By Nathan McShinsky

On the night of the Royals last regular season home game, better known as Senior Night, SoRo played the Thetford Panthers. There are six seniors on the team, Nick Enright, Peter Doyle-Braman, Nate McShinsky, Darren Slack, Dale Manning, and Chris Chapman.

After the Royals’ recognition of the seniors the Royals struggled in the first quarter. SoRo bounced back and ended the quarter on a run to bring it back to 11-15. Then in the second quarter, the Royals kept their run going and got the lead and then took a four-point advantage. Thetford ended the half with their own run to give them a 29-22 lead at the half.

At the start of the second half, the Royals continued with a spark trying to get back in the game to stay in contention for the win and eventually won the quarter, 13-12, to bring the game within six points, 35-41 with one quarter to play. The Royals had eight minutes to bring home a victory for the seniors that just didn’t happen as the Panthers ended the game with an 18-12 fourth quarter. Thetford won by 12, 59-47.

All six seniors did step up however and three of them led the Royals in scoring. Doyle-Braman had 14; Slack and Manning who added nine and eight, respectively. Jason Gray led the Panthers with 17.

The Royals ended their season with a quick ride over to TSA on the 20th. TSA won, 63-44.

The Royals started off strong and led 12-10 after one. However TSA had a big second quarter as they put up 20 points compared to SoRo's 12, giving the Phoenix a 30-24 lead at the half.

Miles Ellis led SoRo with 10 points while Enright followed with seven. Two TSA seniors, Will Imbo and Phineas Ellis, led the Phoenix with 16 and 14.

South Royalton finished the season 9-10 and were dealt the 12th seed for the Division III playoffs, where they played Tuesday night in Fairfax against #5 BFA-Fairfax in the first round.

SoRo won by two and plays Twin Valley Friday, weather permitting.
