The Sharon Academy varsity boys closed out their scheduled season last week. The first game of the week against the Cabot Huskies was a good warm up for the games that were to come later in the week. This year Cabot is a significantly young team, playing with only one senior. Cabot lost to the Phoenix, 57-48. The game against the Craftsbury Chargers was, to put it nicely, a massacre. It got to the point where Sharon fans stopped clapping when their team made a basket and hoped Craftsbury would score. With the final score of 58-12, Sharon used it as preparation: "We were in their position last year and they tried their hardest, it was a good game for us to get a lot of guys playing time as we head into our senior night against South Royalton." SoRo Contest The crowning point of the varsity boys’ season was senior night versus South Royalton, always a rival of Sharon. Even though it was a vacation week, the gym was filled with so many people there was an overflow into the hallway. A promising game was in store with two determined teams vying to win. Having so many people there to encourage the players really set the tone for the night. Senior Will Imbo hit almost every shot he took and scored 16 points. Each player put their all into the game, which was a success for both teams. South Royalton fell behind in the second half of the game and Sharon continued burning up the court. Many people would agree with Coach Ellis when he said, "It was our best game of the year, they played great, they played just so well I’m so proud of them. What a great way to end the year." The final score was 62-44, the Phoenix triumphing over South Royalton. ____________ |
