Three Ghost Wrestlers
Qualify for New Englands

This past weekend the Randolph wrestlers traveled to St. Johnsbury for the state tournament. Randolph came out with a fifth place finish and three wrestlers will head to the New Englands this weekend. The Ghosts had two wrestlers take second, one take third, and one take fourth.

Second Place

Seth Dezan and Ben Adams each came out of the tournament with a second-place finish. Dezan had a bye in the first round and went on to wrestle Pat Shortle of Rutland. Dezan defeated Shortle with a pin time of 3 minutes. In semi’s he wrestled Joe Lacross of Mill River and defeated him with a major decision of 19 to 3. In finals Dezan wrestled D.J. Legacy of Mt. Anthony. He was defeated with a decision of 3 to 1.

Adams started out the day with a bye as well. His first match was against Lawrence Olio of Richmond. Adams defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 58 seconds. Moving on, he wrestled Jesse Garrett of Mt. Mansfield. Adams defeated him with a decision of 7 to 3. In finals he wrestled Matt McVay of Mt. Anthony, but was defeated with a score of 5 to 0.

Third Place

Wesley Simpson received a third place finish at states. He had a bye the first round and then went on to wrestle Derek Bolduc of Mt. Mansfield. W. Simpson was defeated by a minor decision. He had a bye in the next round as well. Moving on he wrestled Kale Auger of Fair Haven and defeated him with a pin time of 2 minutes, 38 seconds. In his next match W. Simpson defeated Jacob Losse of Essex with a decision of 6 to 4. In consi finals he wrestled Kori Martell of Mt. Abe and defeated him with a decision of 12 to 6.

Fourth Place Finish

David Maxfield had a bye in the first round. His first match was against Travis Brigante of Colchester. He was defeated in the second period. Next he wrestled John Ciaramitaco of Middlebury. Maxfield defeated him with a pin time of 54 seconds. In his next match he wrestled Doug Rosenburg of St. Johnsbury, and defeated him with a pin time of 58 seconds. In his consi finals match he went up against Brett Tromblay of Spaulding. Maxfield was defeated with a decision of 9 to 5.

Other Matches

Wrestling at 112 pounds was Amanda Deyette. She had a bye in the first round, but went on to wrestle Jacob Shortle of Mt. Anthony. Deyette was defeated in the first period. She had a bye in the next round as well. Then Deyette wrestled Matt Newton of Mt. Mansfield, but was defeated in the first period.

Matt Simpson started out the day with a win against Jesse West of Enosburg. He defeated him with a pin time of 2 minutes, 38 seconds. In his next match he wrestled Josh Kernan of Harwood, but was defeated in the second period. M. Simpson’s last match was against Mike Hennessy of Essex, where Simpson was defeated with a score of 2 to 1.

Stephen Bent also started out the tournament with a win. His first match was against Garrison Leduc of Middlebury. Bent defeated him with a pin time of 4 minutes, 58 seconds. His next match was against Cole Frost of Mt. Anthony. Bent was defeated with a decision of 11 to 3. Next he wrestled Steve Torres of Colchester and defeated him with a pin time of 4 minutes, 2 seconds. Moving on, Bent wrestled Shane Bouchard of Otter Valley, but was defeated by one point.

Continuing the first match winning streak was James Wright. His first match was against Ken Demingware of Spaulding. Wright defeated him with a pin time of 3 minutes, 49 seconds. Moving on he wrestled Ethan Furlon of Mt. Anthony, but was defeated in the first period. His next match was against William Nesbitt of Enosburg, Wright defeated him with a decision of 12 to 2. His final match was against Luke Hughes of Mill River. Wright was defeated in the last period.

Tom Kirkpatrick had a bye in the first round, but went on to wrestle Jake Kirk-Elkin of Rutland. Kirkpatrick was defeated in the first period. Next he wrestled Seth Howland of Fair Haven, but was defeated in the second period.

The team was proud to come out with a fifth place finish despite the small size of the team. The New England qualifiers travel to New Haven Connecticut this Friday for the two day tournament.
