Sixth seeded Chelsea hosted 13th seeded Concord in playoff action Monday night. The Red Devils had a strong outing for the 84-60 win. The Chelsea boys came out to a strong start scoring eight unanswered points, six from Brandon Emery. The Devils continued to dominate the first quarter and took a 22-10 lead at the end of the first. In the second quarter Chelsea continued to take advantage of open lanes and rebounds. Jesse Blondin poured in 12 points in the first half to give Chelsea a safe lead. The teams broke at halftime, Chelsea up 44-18. In the third quarter the Concord Wildcats played even with Chelsea, but Chelsea maintained a 29-point lead as they entered the final quarter. Chelsea controlled boards and continued to be a threat on the offensive end. The final score was 84-60. Chelsea’s scoring was spread out as Emery had 17 points, Blondin 12, Jordan Lyford and Zeb Allen chipped in 10 each, Nate Dowlin, Andrew Richardson, and Jimmy Welch put up eight points each. Chelsea advances to the quarterfinals and will travel to #3 West Rutland on Friday, March 2. It will be a good match up as the Devils and the Golden Horde split in their regular season. Chelsea JV Boys The Chelsea JV team earned a spot in the top four teams in the Central Vermont league. Because of their outstanding season they were invited to the JV tournament. Their first game was against Thetford Academy. Chelsea and Thetford played a close game, but it was the Red Devils that came out on top 43-40. The Championship round proved just as evenly matched as the first round. Chelsea took on South Royalton in an exciting game. Unfortunately South Royalton took a home a one point win 38-37. Andrew Richardson led the Devils with 36 combined points. ____________ |
