'Yes' Vote Is It’s easy to take for granted some of the special joys of living in Randolph, especially those things that are so familiar we can’t imagine the town without them. Chandler is one of those joys that touches us all. Whether it’s Mud Season Talent Show, world-renowned music and dance acts, July 4th theater by local kids, exhibits of local artists, or town meeting, Chandler is at the heart of life here. And now, our heart needs some care. Chandler was a gift to Randolph people over a century ago. The programs are run by a talented and devoted array of volunteers and staff, but the building itself belongs to all of us. The Chandler building needs long-deferred maintenance and code upgrades, which are the subject of an upcoming vote. Article 8 of the Australian Ballot will ask the citizens of Randolph to bond $750,000 over 20 years as part of a $4-million project to update and improve Chandler as it enters its second century of service. If we first show our commitment to do our part, these Town dollars can be matched more than five times over by the capital fundraising drive to finish the project. For Randolph homeowners, this means contributing less than $14 each year —roughly the cost of a pizza—for every $100,000 of home value, to keep Chandler structurally sound, safe, accessible, comfortable and affordable to all. Chandler is at the heart of our community, and voting yes to Article 8 is "heart smart"! Julie Iffland Randolph |
