Keep Bluebirds Happy in Vermont

Bluebirds! Bluebirds! Bluebirds! The Christmas bird count, in Boston was 280 bluebirds. This yeas they did not migrate to the southern tier of states. We are ready to receive them in a few weeks. As usual they arrived here in Vermont about the second week in March.

The Bluebird Recovery Program has 50 schools in our program. Each school has six Audubon-approved nest boxes, awaiting for cavity nesting species to occupy a rent-free home, to raise a family.

Anyone wanting bluebirds to nest in their nest boxes should clean them out, s well as have them in good repair. If there are no nest boxes in the area the bluebirds will fly on to Canada!

We have nest boxes available, should anyone wish to contact us at (802) 763-8009.

Several gold finches have arrive here at out-feeding station this a.m. Along with chickadees, hairy and downy woodpeckers, there are black-eyed juncos. Let’s hope the bluebirds stop her in Vermont.
