Vote To Support
The Music Hall

On Tuesday, March 6th, voters in Randolph have the opportunity to give their support to one of the things that makes this town a really special place to live in, namely, the Chandler Music Hall.

The music hall celebrates its 100th year this year, and finds itself busier than it has ever been, featuring a wonderfully diverse schedule of entertainers, both local and world-class, sporting state-of-the-art lighting and sound, and air-conditioning!

What a beautiful facility. If you have never been to Chandler Music Hall, you owe it to yourself to find something of interest on their schedule and go. Whether it's to see your neighbors in the Mud Season Talent Show (or the new "Mini Mud" show for kids), or a world-class violinist, you are treated to spectacular architecture and superb acoustics. Likewise, offerings in the attached Chandler Gallery, from paintings, to photography, to sculpture, are often provocative, and always beautiful. Unique and appropriate programming continues to grow and flourish in both parts of this facility.

Interestingly, this asset to our community is literally that—an asset—because it is property of the Town of Randolph. It brings great performers and artists into town, it brings money into town, and it is an important part of our town's identity.

But it has not always been so. In fact, Chandler had fallen into disuse for a long while until Red Hartigan and others brought it back to life some three decades ago. Today, under the direction of the Randolph Chamber's Outstanding Business Executive of the Year, Becky McMeekin, the Chandler Music Hall and Gallery is more vital than ever. It is something we can all be proud of.

Unfortunately, while many positive things have been going on, time has taken its toll, codes have been upgraded, and legislation has been passed, and now our beautiful music hall is in need of some help to ensure that it continues to be an asset to our community, because it would surely be a shame to allow it to become a useless liability.

It's estimated that the bond that we're being asked to approve, to take care of deferred maintenance and bring the hall up to code, will cost a average taxpayer with a $200,000 home about $27 per year for the next 20 years. What a bargain!

Please vote in support of Article 8 for Chandler Music Hall, this coming Tuesday, on Town Meeting Day, and make Chandler safe, more accessible, more efficient and even more vital for our future.
