180 Tons

Herald photograph by Bob Eddy

Of Concrete!

Working 20 feet below river level, Winterset Construction cleans bedrock this week, preparing for the first pour of concrete in Randolph’s new bridge.

One hundred eighty tons were delivered Wednesday to a spot cleared within a coffer dam almost underneath the existing bridge. Eventually, a single 30-foot high pier will rise here to support the beams above

Work on the southern support for the bridge can continue all winter, and in the spring the new bridge will be activated and the old one demolished, along with the graffiti.
