Here is what I have written to Richard Tarrant of Burlington:

Congratulations on having run a wonderful campaign for the US Senate.

Your decision to not accept contributions to the campaign from outside the state prevented me from providing material support but please allow me to offer this tribute.

• You did the right thing.

• You offered the people of Vermont a different viewpoint.

• You planted the seeds of good ideas in the minds of those who listened.

• You demonstrated how a campaign ought to be run–on the issues.

Those who participate affirm that the founders got it right. Thanks.
