Wallace J. Sherlock MONTPELIER—Wallace James Sherlock, 93, died January 16, 2007 in Montpelier. Born August 30, 1913 in Tunbridge, the son of the late John William and Nellie Caroline Howe Sherlock, he lived in Boston, New York City and New Jersey before moving to West Hartford, Conn. in 1958. He lived with his family for 25 years on Ridgewood Road in West Hartford and spent his retirement years in Montpelier. He was an honors graduate of Bentley College in Boston, and New York University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude). He was valedictorian of his graduating class from South Royalton High School. He was a certified public accountant and had been associated with KPMG Peat Marwick in its New York, Newark, and Hartford offices for 34 years until his retirement from the firm. He was a former adjunct accounting instructor at the American Institute of Banking in Newark and Elizabeth, N.J. and at Hartford State Technical College in Hartford, Conn. He was active in the following professional accounting organizations: the American Institute of C.P.A.’s, Connecticut Society of C.P.A.’s, Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Institute of Management Accountants. He was a former member of the Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Hartford, where he served on the board of directors and various committees for many years. He was a member of the board of Governors of the University of Hartford for six years and a member of the Board of Opticians, State of Vermont, a director of the Spring Road Cemetery Association in Tunbridge, and a member of The Hartford Club. Survivors include his wife, Joan Frances Huck Bodei Sherlock; a son, Wallace James Sherlock, Jr. and his wife, Elena, of Whitewater, Wis.; a daughter, Barbara Joan Sherlock Rixford and her husband, Stephen, of Tunbridge; three grandchildren: Travis Alexander Rixford and his wife, Audrey, of Livingston, Mont.; Tanya Ann Rixford Fraser and her husband, Robert, of White River Junction; and Gregory Wallace Sherlock of Whitewater, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Delaney Scarlett Rixford of Livingston, Mont.; and Sebastian Eugene Fraser of White River Junction. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert W. Sherlock of Tunbridge and John H. Sherlock of Barre. Burial will be at the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge at the convenience of the family. A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, with the Rev. David Wolfe officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Wallace James Sherlock Endowed Scholarship Fund, Bentley College, 175 Forest Street, Waltham, Mass. 02452. The fund will provide financial assistance to deserving Vermont students. ____________ |
