This past weekend the Randolph wrestlers traveled to Essex for the annual Essex Classics tournament. The Ghosts went into the tournament knowing it would be a challenge, and ended up doing ok. (Correction from last week. Blake had a first place finish, not a third place finish.) Fourth Place Finish Seth Dezan was seeded fourth going into this tournament, and ended up taking fourth. His first match was against Eathan Bonewell, Dezan pinned Bonewell with a fall time of 37 seconds. Moving on to quarters, he wrestled Grant Gebo from Whitehall. Dezan defeated him with a decision of 9 to 3. In semis, Dezan wrestled the first seed Josh Eon from Massabeesic, but was defeated. Moving onto consi semis, Dezan wrestled Michael Baril of Spaulding and defeated him with a decision of 10 to 4. In consi finals, Dezan wrestled a tough match against Lisbens’ Art Stambach. Dezan and his opponent went into triple overtime, but Dezan was defeated. Fifth Place Finish Wrestling at 189 pounds was Ben Adams. In his first match, Adams wrestled Adam Lucia of Beekmantown. Adams defeated him with a fall time of 3 minutes, 37 seconds. In quarters, he wrestled Jedd Mason of Whitehall but was defeated with a decision. Adams defeated his next match from Lisben with a decision of 6 to 0. Next he wrestled Josh Mitchell and defeated him with a decision of 4 to 3. In consi semis, Adams was defeated in the second period. In his last match of the day, he wrestled Zach Chandler of Mt. Ararat and beat him with a decision of 5 to 4, giving him his fifth place finish. Sixth Place Finish Matt Simpson received a sixth place finish for Randolph at the Classics. In his first match he wrestled David Mongeon from Milton, but was defeated in the sixth period. M. Simpson had a bye in the next round, but moved on to wrestle Colin Wilbur of Whitehall. M. Simpson defeated him with a decision of 11 to 7. Next he wrestled Zack Rillo of Spaulding and defeated him with a pin time of 4 minutes, 17 seconds. After that he wrestled Mt. Mansfield’s Kyle Graham. M. Simpson defeated him with a decision of 11 to 7. Then he wrestled Josh Kernan from Harwood, but was defeated in the last period. In his final match, he wrestled Nick Spaulding of Masabeesic, but was defeated. Other Matches Wes Simpson won his first match of the day against Kale Auger of Fair Haven. W. Simpson defeated him with a fall time of 1 minute, 52 seconds. In quarters, he wrestled Kyle Courtway of Masabeesic, but was defeated with a decision of 5 to 4. His next match was against Mike McManus of Lisben. W. Simpson defeated him with a pin in the first period. Next he wrestled Steve Desrochers of Noble, but was defeated with a minor decision. Wrestling at 140 pounds was David Maxfield. Maxfield first wrestled Travis Garrett of Mt. Mansfield, but was defeated in the second period. His next match was against Eli Coniglio from Mt. Greylock. Maxfield defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 39 seconds. Moving on, he wrestled Chris Grover of Deering, and defeated him with a pin time of 1 minute, 52 seconds. His final match of the weekend was against Sherman Wood of CVU. Wood defeated Maxfield in the second period. Stephen Bent’s first match was against Ike Brochu of Masabeesic. Bent was defeated in the second period. Bent had a bye in the next round, but went on to wrestle Steve Torres of Colchester, and was defeated with a decision of 13 to 9. Wrestling at 112 pounds was Amanda Deyette. Deyette had a bye in the first round, but went on to wrestle Shawn Burrington of Spaulding. She was defeated in the first period. Her next match was against Matt Newton of Mt. Mansfield. Deyette was defeated in the first period. James Wright started off the day with a win against Jake Gimmler of Whitehall. In his next match, Wright wrestled Ryan Jackson of Mt. Greylock. Wright was defeated due to penalties in this match. His next match was against Kevin Youngman of Mt. Mansfield. Wright defeated him with a score of 6 to 3. In his last, match he wrestled Ken Demingware of Spaulding, but was defeated in the last period. Tom Kirkpatrick wrestled Jeromy Anderson of Spaulding in his first match, but was defeated in the first period. His next match was against Noble. Kirkpatrick was defeated in the first period. Home Meet On Wednesday, the Ghosts hosted a meet against St. Johnsbury. Due to the small size of Randolph’s team, there were only five matches. Amanda Deyette wrestled at 112 pounds against Ian Erhard. Deyette was defeated in the first period. Wrestling at 125 pounds was Wes Simpson. He wrestled Tomas Cohen, and defeated him with a decision of 15 to 4. Next was Matt Simpson wrestling at 130 pounds. He wrestled Pat Bishop, and was defeated in the third period. After that Stephen Bent wrestled Cameron Kozlowski and defeated him in the first period with a pin time of 1 minute, 11 seconds. The last match of the night was Ben Adams and Josh Smith. Adams pinned Smith in the first period with a pin time of 1 minute, 8 seconds. The Ghosts go to Rutland tonight for a dual meet with Rutland. ____________ |
