ROCHESTER—Donald E. Harvey, 76, a lifelong resident of Rochester, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Jan. 23, 2007, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., with his loving family at his side. He was born in Rochester, the son of Theron S. and Dorothy (Smead) Harvey. He graduated from Rochester High School, and in his earlier years was a farmer and logger. He married Madeline Tessier Oct. 14, 1960. She died in 2001. He was a long-time general contractor in the Rochester area, and had operated the Mountain View Inn since 1960. He married Janice Tanguay Jan. 31, 2004. He was the historian and collector of Harvey family memorabilia, and took pride in being a good neighbor. He was a member of the Rochester Federated Church where he held many positions, and served on the Board of Trustees of Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was the first member of the Rochester Planning Commission, and served on the Rochester School Board at the same time the elementary school was paid off. Survivors include his wife, Janice Harvey of Rochester; son, Peter Harvey of Rochester; two daughters, Carol Norway and her husband Tom of Richmond and Katherine Harvey of Rochester; a step-son, Andrew Arbo of Windsor; three brothers, Marvin Harvey and his wife Barbara of Rochester, Lewis Harvey of Brandon, and William Harvey and his wife Judy of Rochester; sister-in-law, Verna Harvey of Florence, Vt.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Thompson; and two brothers, Edwin and Norman Harvey. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Federated Church, with Rev. Gregory Homan officiating. Burial will be at North Hollow Cemetery in Rochester. Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the church.
